When local Government controls your exposure to Hazardous Waste:
During the recent floods, I had a couple of very serious issues. One issue has been constant since Mr. Folden was in place at City Hall and has continued under the Bradford administration. I can say that while Folden was in place I could get sandbags for the flooding, that has not been the case under the Bradford reign.
When the water level rises to a certain point due to rain, the Town of Jonesboro Sewer system backs up into my house. I requested help in the past and a Smoke Test, (a process where harmless smoke is injected into the sewer system to try to determine the location of leaks) was conducted to try to evaluate the origination of the leak and or leaks. That was conducted under Folden’s tenure. I have no information as to when or how any leaks were capped or repaired, if any as the issue has only gotten worse with time.
This past week we received abnormal amounts of rain, so I had abnormal amounts of( raw sewage) forcing it’s way into my sewer field line due to the leaks in the Town of Jonesboro Sewer system. . I had to remove the cap on my line to allow the back flow to flow right back out into my yard, instead of destroying my home. My yard was virtually the Town of Jonesboro’s hazardous waste dumping ground for 3 days. No one came to evaluate this nor did I receive any help with this matter. Fortunately for me and the Town of Jonesboro, I was home and had the ability to divert the (toxic waste) or the outcome would have been horrific.
I emailed the Town of Jonesboro, texted the Alderman at Large-Nia Burks and provided her with the video and also emailed the current Public Relations employee-Nick Smith and provided him with the same information. He indicated he would “get back to me” on this and my request to he added to the Agenda of the next Council meeting. I am still waiting on that response.
My questions are as follows:
- What are you doing that is so important that you cannot send someone to help with your sewage problems?
- Why can’t you send someone to evaluate your problems and save the Town of Jonesboro possible litigation?
- What are my “rights” as a Citizen in the Town of Jonesboro?
I merely wanted to address the local governing body of the Town of Jonesboro to seek relief and ask that they please address this issue, respectfully.
I read the most recent Audit and based on that alone I can understand some things, but to knowingly avoid the responsibility of proper maintenance of Sewer systems is not only a liability but a Health Hazard.
Do I have a “right” to live in a Town where (all) people are treated (equally).
I do believe the United States Constitution (guarantees) this right, despite what one individual thinks.
I am very thankful to have been home this past week. I have confidence in some of the Town of Jonesboro Council members, and hope they will come to the aid of one that can only ask for help, and trust they will do their respective job.
