Where are my (rights)?

When local Government controls your exposure to Hazardous Waste:

During the recent floods, I had a couple of  very serious issues. One  issue has been constant since Mr. Folden was in place at City Hall and has continued under the Bradford administration. I can say that while Folden was in place I could get sandbags for the flooding, that has not been the case under the Bradford reign.

When the water level rises to a certain point due to rain, the Town of Jonesboro Sewer system backs up into my house. I requested help in the past and a Smoke Test, (a process where harmless smoke is injected into the sewer system to try to determine the location of leaks) was conducted to try to evaluate the origination of the leak and or leaks. That was conducted under Folden’s tenure. I have no information as to when or how any leaks were capped or repaired, if any as the issue has only gotten worse with time.

This past week we received abnormal amounts of rain, so I had abnormal amounts of( raw sewage) forcing it’s way into my sewer field line due to the leaks in the Town of Jonesboro Sewer system. . I had to remove the cap on my line to allow the back flow to flow right back out into my yard, instead of destroying my home.  My yard was virtually the Town of Jonesboro’s  hazardous waste dumping ground for 3 days. No one came to evaluate this nor did I receive any help with this matter. Fortunately for me and the Town of Jonesboro, I was home and had the ability to divert the (toxic waste) or the outcome would have been horrific.

I emailed the Town of Jonesboro, texted the Alderman at Large-Nia Burks and provided her with the video  and  also emailed the current Public Relations employee-Nick Smith and provided him with the same information. He indicated he would “get back to me” on this and my request to he added to the Agenda of the next Council meeting. I am still waiting on that response.

My questions are as follows:

  1. What are you doing that is so important that you cannot send someone to help with your sewage problems?
  2. Why can’t you send someone to evaluate your problems and save the Town of Jonesboro possible litigation?
  3. What are my “rights” as a Citizen in the Town of Jonesboro?

I merely wanted to address the local governing body of the Town of Jonesboro to seek relief and ask that they please address this issue, respectfully.

I read the most recent Audit and based on that alone I can understand some things, but to knowingly avoid the responsibility of proper maintenance of Sewer systems is not only a liability but a Health Hazard.

Do I have a “right” to live in a Town where (all) people are treated (equally).

I do believe the United States Constitution (guarantees) this right, despite what one individual thinks.

I am very thankful to have been home this past week. I have confidence in some of the Town of Jonesboro Council members, and hope they will come to the aid of one that can only ask for help, and trust they  will do their respective job.

Repetitive Action in Local Government

History does in fact repeat itself in Jackson Parish, namely the Town of Jonesboro.  For months there have been issues with Water Quality, Water Availability and the obvious issue of having a competent person with the ability and credentials to treat and or draw water samples and submit them to the proper entity  in order to have a test completed on the sample. This was an issue with the Thompson administration and the Folden assignment.

This has now been an ongoing issue in the Bradford administration, as the back of the February 2016 statement of water usage by the Town of Jonesboro notes the fact that December 2015 there were no tests on the drinking water for the Town of Jonesboro, La. This is not the first time that disclaimer has been noted on the back of the Town of Jonesboro water bill since the beginning of the  Bradford administration.

Perhaps the new declaration of the 10% donation by a local bank should also have a (Caveat) that declares that the Town of Jonesboro take a portion of the proceeds and hire a competent Water Department employee with proper credentials and certifications., otherwise History will just continue to repeat itself.

Propping up a Town with donations, raising water rates and of course the next area to impregnate the Town coffers will be to (raise taxes) none of which  will ever give the town the ability to manage itself.

Money can do a lot of things but there are still some things that it can’t manipulate: History is the main one.

May we some day see a definitive change that includes the term progression as a headline and not( repetitive action in local government )as the banner.

History Repeating Itself in Jonesboro, La.

The people spoke on this matter but obviously their voice can no longer be heard.

The people spoke on this matter but obviously their voice can no longer be heard.

I have been on a job assignment so my writing has been on hiatus so to speak but since returning to Jonesboro, I have seen several things that I have had to pray about and search for answers to, specifically, the new Liquor Store.

Several years ago, several residents, churches and Pastors got involved and worked toward a common goal of restricting the sale and or access to Alcohol in certain areas. This was accomplished by a vote of the people, and on Thrusday August 19, 1976 the Jackson Independent Published the results of the voting  according to Wards in Jackson Parish. See Attached copy.

First of all, if a person wants to drink, that is their choice, I have no intention of trying to regulate a person’s life or choices. I do however have a right to question how a Liquor License is provided to an establishment when the people voted against it but to my knowledge have not had an opportunity to vote for it to be approved. What am I missing here?

  1. Did the law change?
  2.  Did the people that enforce it just over look this?
  3. Was it just a simple mistake?
  4. Does this set a precedence for all the other people that are waiting in the wings to set up their shop?
  5. Where are all the people, Churches and Pastor’s that were against it before?
  6. When did the Local Government gain the power to override a Vote of the People?
  7. Does it matter any more?

I prayerfully hope that this is not an indication of what the future holds for the Town of Jonesboro, but truthfully, in my opinion- it’s just “history” repeating itself.

Motives Will Be Uncovered

Therefore, judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God. 1 Cor. 4:5

Points to Ponder: Motive: Something (as a need or desire) that causes a person to act. (Merriam Webster)

As we look around we see so many things and actions that take place on a daily basis that sometimes cause us to try to (Judge) or perceive why or what (MOTIVE) is behind the action. We don’t have to bother, according to the word of God, He has that job.

Facts: Everything that is done in darkness will be brought to light, He said it and I believe it. He wrote the book long before I was even born, has been dealing with sin and sinners of which I am one, but forgiven and sins forgotten, by the One that OWNS my soul. His view of the motives of mortal man will be unveiled in the not too distant future. If you have piled up a heap of motives to self promote, cover your sins, cover your actions and most of all hide your actions behind a church name, He will uncover it.

The greatest gift to all of us is (forgiveness). He specializes in that area and longs to provide a way of escape for His children. Please don’t believe that your actions will go unnoticed and your Motives are hidden, and most of all please don’t believe that you have gone too far astray, He loves you and will deliver you, if you just call on Him. Please don’t tarry, He is closer today than yesterday.

Have a blessed day.

Beware of Your False Sense of Accomplishment

Beware that you don not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart if lifted up and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; who led you through the great and terrible wilderness with manna, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end; then you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Deuteronomy 8:11-18.

Points to Ponder:

Sometimes after people accumulate all the things the eye sees and the heart desires they toss God and anything slightly akin to God to the side in order to enjoy and promote themselves and their earthly treasure. God promises in His holy word He will test you and He will humble you, this you can depend on as its through His power that we are able to work to accumulate anything, however,He owes us nothing.  Some of us had praying Great Grandparents, Grandparents and Parents that bombarded Heaven on our behalf and for that we are blessed, but how many prayers have you sent up on behalf of your family since you “arrived” at your goal?

Facts: God is merciful, He will hear your cries if you only trust Him, He will help you reorganize  your life in order to put Him in His rightful place in your life or He will humble you so that the only way you can look is up, to Him, instead of down on everyone else. Please don’t hesitate, He loves you and wants to renew that relationship you once had with Him. Today is the day.

Have a blessed day.

Have You Noticed the Sparrow Lately?

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:7

Points to Ponder: Have you take the time to notice a sparrow lately? I remember watching them as a child at Wot A Burger, they would dart up, swoop down and grab a mere crumb. They never intruded, they just wanted a tiny morsel, they would avoid the larger pieces just to have a crumb. They were selective in that they only took what they needed, they knew they couldn’t fly with something larger than they could actually carry.

Sometimes we forget that we don’t have a need for all the things the world has for us to partake of, we just get on the merry go round and try to hang on as the (shakers and movers) push the wheel faster and faster all the while forgetting the things that matter, the necessities-those things that God requires.

God said that the very hairs of our head are numbered, He cares for a sparrow but cares for us much more than that so why not stop allowing the world (shakers and movers) to convince you that you must utilize their devices in order to be successful? Why keep grabbing for the elusive things that the world requires instead of what you actually need? Why not try to mimic the sparrow, take only the amount that you need, not something so large that  it would prohibit your walk with God?

He will never allow you to fall off the path He sets for you to walk, if you just hold His hand and let go of the (shakers and movers).

Have a blessed day.

What and Where is Your Treasure and Who Holds It?

Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21.

Points to Ponder:

1. What is your treasure?

2. Where is your treasure?

Have you been so preoccupied with marching ahead, striving to be first, demanding to be in charge, forsaking everyone and God in order to control everything? Have you been so consumed with your goals and aspirations that you withdrew your treasure from Heaven and have deposited it in the bank of the World? Where your deposit draws no Heavenly interest but accrues pain and suffering and the most intense feeling of rejection when the world turns it’s back on you? Is it really worth it?

God cares. He will restore your vision, He will prioritize your Treasure and He will most definitely keep it safe with more authority than the FDIC. He has the LIFE GIVING AUTHORITY to back up your deposits. Please give God a chance to help you, He is only one prayer away.

Have a blessed day.
